Chamonix has something for all the family, young or old.
In winter, for children this can often centre around ski school and there are some excellent ski schools in the valley but there are also other activities such as husky rides which can be great fun for kids.
For a day off skiing or for non-skiers there are plenty of alternatives in Chamonix. There are guided snow shoe treks or you can take the train to the Mer de Glace or the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi to take in some breathtaking views.
With Chamonix's proximity to Italy and Switzerland, it's easy to have a day trip out of the valley. You can make a quick trip through the Mont Blanc tunnel into Italy; in winter this can be an enjoyable ski day in Courmayeur (which is included on the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass). Verbier is also another popular day trip as is Geneva for trips on the lake or shopping. Also on a lake, Annecy, a beautiful and historic French town is also close and worth considering.
As Chamonix is a thriving alpine town it is great for facilities year round. Children will love the sports centre with its pool and ice rink, there's a cinema, a museum and plenty of restaurants from McDonalds to Michelin starred as well as local shops and supermarkets selling local produce.
There are also local companies offering babysitting and nannying services, tailored to your requirements. In summer, there are lots of things for children to do and explore, including adventure parks. Families can rent bikes to explore the valley and there are miles of mountain bike trails for the more adventurous. Chalet La Moraine is a luxury family friendly chalet, for our younger guests we have travel cots, high chairs and a baby bath. We have lots of DVDs and there are board games and a Playstation 3 for older children.
